Termite control & inspections

Termite control in Cairns, done properly.

Termites cause more damage to Australian homes than fire, floods and storms combined, and they work year-round in the tropics. We inspect, treat and protect your home with licensed barriers and baiting, all backed in writing.

Do I really need termite control in Cairns?

In short: yes. Cairns sits in one of Australia's highest termite-risk zones, with warm, humid conditions that keep colonies active all year. Most home insurance does not cover termite damage, so a yearly inspection and a managed barrier or baiting system is the cheapest protection you can buy. TPPM inspects to Australian Standard AS 3660, treats with licensed products, and gives you a written report and guarantee, usually with a same-week booking.

Spot the problem early

Six signs you may already have termites.

Termites stay hidden until the damage is done. If you notice any of these around a Cairns home, book an inspection before they spread.

Mud tubes & leads

Pencil-width mud trails running up piers, walls or foundations, the termite highway between soil and timber.

Hollow or papery timber

Tap a skirting or door frame. A hollow, drummy sound means termites have eaten it out from inside.

Discarded wings

Small piles of identical wings near windows or lights after rain mean a colony has swarmed nearby.

Bubbling or blistered paint

Paint that looks like it is lifting or has water damage can be termites working just under the surface.

Doors & windows sticking

Frames that suddenly jam can mean moisture and movement from termites feeding inside the timber.

Sagging or buckling floors

Soft, springy or uneven floors and architraves pulling away are late-stage signs. Call us straight away.

Seeing any of these? Book an inspection today, the sooner we look, the less it costs to fix.

Know your enemy

The termites that target Far North Queensland homes.

Not all termites are equal. The tropics around Cairns are home to some of the most destructive species in the country, and the right treatment depends on correctly identifying which one you have. That is the first thing our technician does on site.

Because there is no cold season to slow them down, local colonies feed and expand all year, which is exactly why a southern-style annual check is not enough up here.

Coptotermes
Most common & destructive

Australia's number-one structural pest. Large colonies, central nests and long galleries. They can severely damage a Cairns home in months, not years.

Schedorhinotermes
Cryptic & fast

Often missed because they nest low and stay hidden. Highly destructive and common in the wet tropics, which is why a trained eye matters.

Mastotermes darwiniensis
Giant northern termite

The most primitive and aggressive termite on earth, found in the Far North. It attacks timber, trees, crops and even some plastics and rubber.

Nasutitermes
Fences, trees & decking

Builds visible nests in trees and stumps and happily moves into fences, decking and garden timbers around the property.

What you get

A complete termite program, not a quick spray.

Termites need a managed solution. Here is exactly what your TPPM service covers, from the first inspection to long-term protection.

Full timber-pest inspection

A thorough inspection of the interior, roof void, subfloor and grounds, using moisture meters and thermal where needed, reported against AS 4349.3.

Chemical soil barrier

A continuous treated zone around your home using a leading non-repellent termiticide, so foraging termites carry it back and collapse the colony.

In-ground baiting systems

Discreet bait stations to monitor and eliminate colonies, ideal where a full barrier is not practical or for ongoing protection.

Active colony treatment

Found live termites? We dust or foam the workings directly to knock the colony down before sealing your home with a barrier.

Written report & advice

A clear report with photos, your risk rating and plain-English advice on moisture, drainage and conducive conditions to fix.

Annual protection plan

Ongoing inspections and bait servicing so you stay protected and your guarantee stays valid, with a reminder when you are due.

Termite questions

Straight answers on termites.

The questions Cairns locals ask us most. Still unsure? Send a photo and we will tell you exactly what you are dealing with.

Ask us anything
How much does termite treatment cost in Cairns?
It depends on your home size, construction and the treatment needed, so we give a fixed written quote after inspecting. A termite inspection is a small fixed fee, and a full barrier or baiting program is quoted to your property. The on-site inspection and quote are free and there is never a call-out fee.
How often should I get a termite inspection?
At least once a year. Cairns is a high-risk zone, so the Australian Standard recommends annual inspections at minimum, and more often for homes with a known history or nearby activity. We will set a reminder so you never miss one.
Are your termite treatments safe for my family and pets?
Yes. We use registered, low-toxicity products applied by licensed technicians and brief you on any re-entry windows before we start. Soil barriers and in-ground baits are installed away from living areas, and we always plan around kids, pets and fish tanks.
Does home insurance cover termite damage?
Almost never. Most Australian home insurance policies specifically exclude termite damage because it is considered preventable. That is why a managed inspection and treatment program is the cheapest protection against a repair bill that can run into the tens of thousands.
I found termites. Should I spray them myself first?
No, please do not. Disturbing or spraying live termites makes them retreat and move elsewhere in the building, which makes them much harder to eliminate. Leave the workings exactly as they are and call us, that mud trail is the trail we follow back to the colony.
How long does a termite treatment take?
An inspection usually takes one to two hours. A full chemical barrier on an average home is typically completed in a day. Baiting systems are installed quickly and then monitored over following visits. We will confirm timing with your quote.
